On The Job Training
As the Master Vendor for Bombardier, we have full responsibility for the recruitment and management of all contract workers across the company’s UK operation. In 2009 we set up and launched an innovative on the job training programme to get the contract workers at Bombardier’s Derby manufacturing plant a modern City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 qualification in Performing Manufacturing Operations.
Nothing To Pay
The course itself involves one formal four-hour teaching session in a classroom followed by three work-based assessments on the floor. Once the contractors have demonstrated their competence in all of the required categories the paperwork is submitted to the City & Guilds board to issue the certificate. There is nothing to pay, as the entire training programme is funded through a government-led initiative to get more people qualified to NVQ level.
Industry Recognised Qualification
While the tasks covered by the Performing Manufacturing Operations syllabus would be useful in the majority of engineering and manufacturing companies, employers can ‘pick and mix’ from the long list of optional modules to reflect the priorities for their own business or industry.
Bombardier has selected modules that will train and assess their workers in four key competencies covering electrical verification, earth bonding, hock bolt and torque tightening and testing – so we have organised the training programme to deliver an industry recognised qualification that is tailored to Bombardier’s requirements.
The Performing Manufacturing Operations NVQ training has proved so successful that we are now training and assessing storage and warehouse staff, stores people and forklift truck drivers in the NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing & Storage.
Perfectly Placed
If you would like your workforce to get an industry recognised qualification while they’re working for you – at no extra expense – we are perfectly placed to deliver a tried and tested training model for your business.
