Siemens Mobility

Huge Nationwide Database

In January 2011 we signed an agreement with Siemens Mobility to supply four electrical fitters to equip 67 Desiro trains with energy monitoring equipment. Our client wanted the fitters to start as soon as possible, so our Specialist Consultants immediately turned to our huge nationwide database of registered candidates. This database holds the names and contact details of literally thousands of skilled technical people, and enables us to save our clients time and money by finding suitable and available candidates faster and more cost effectively than they could ever manage themselves.

Strong Relationships With Our Contractors

Under the terms of the agreement the equipment had to be installed, tested and in operation in all 67 trains by midnight on 31 March 2011. Thanks to our strong relationships with our contractors, our Specialist Consultants were able to identify people we knew could work under pressure and get the job done. Our team of four started work on 13 January 2011 and covered a 24 hour shift between them – two on days, two on nights.

Energetic Troubleshooting

Many different events threatened to derail the project. For example, the monitoring equipment was in limited supply during the early stages of the project, and industrial issues meant that trains were not delivered to the depot at the agreed times. Our Specialist Consultants visited the site every week and engaged in some energetic troubleshooting to overcome every obstacle and keep the upgrade programme on track. In the end the project was completed to everyone’s satisfaction, bang on time.

"In September 2010, Siemens were awarded the contract to install an Energy Meter System on each of the sixty-seven Desiro Class 350s maintained at Siemens Kings Heath Train Care Facility. To ensure completion of the modification within the required timescales and continued fleet availability Shorterm were asked to provide four mechanical and electrical competent contractors to perform the installation. The contractors worked in two self sufficient teams covering day and night shifts, performing the modification on each train in discrete work packages that enabled the trains to be available for service at peak times. The contractors tracked all work, providing visibility of exact work completed and were flexible in their work approach. All work was completed safely and to a high standard within the project timescales and to the satisfaction of Siemens"
